Kitty comes from a classical music background, but became captivated with the bluegrass sound and in particular, bluegrass fiddling, during the early 1980s. Since then, she has also taken up mandolin, upright bass, a bit of flat-picking guitar, and a tad of Scruggs style banjo. She will guide you on your musical journey by using a combination of ear training, musical notation, and tablature. Each student will be provided with a series of recorded practice files ranging in tempo from dead slow to stage ready. Practice with these recordings will help students learn the material and prepare them to easily transition into a group setting. Lessons will also incorporate discussion of notes, keys, and chords. Develop a working knowledge of rudimentary music theory that will assist in learning a tune, remembering the tune, and performing the tune in a band setting.
