Damp fabric was carefully folded, covered with a layer of ice cubes, and sprinkled with powdered dye. As the ice melted, the powder turned to liquid, and tendrils of color seeped into the fabric. After several years of experimenting with ice dyeing, I was able to develop a method of folding and dye placement that evokes flower gardens.
