Hamilton, OH - Whoever said you can't go home again clearly never visited the Fitton Center during Big River Getdown.
Hamilton's reigning musical master - David Shaw, lead singer of The Revivalists - kicked off his namesake weekend music festival Thursday, July 23, with a (cough, cough) revealing evening of rock-n-roll revelry.
He opened the intensely personal VIP performance with "Come Back Home" at the top of a 12-song solo set. About halfway through, the overheated artist peeled off his shirt - much to the vocal delight of the audience - kicked off his shoes and continued with a mix of familiar tunes and debut performances of new songs.
Shaw conversed easily with the audience between songs, often calling out family and friends by name, while an "I love you Uncle Dave" shouted from the house drew a collective "Awww..." from the crowd.
Shaw brought on his band for the second half of the show, closing the two-and-half-hour performance with a rollicking version of 2021's "Got Me Feelin' Good." The feeling was mutual.
