Call to artists

Updated: Jul 27, 2022

Hamilton, Ohio – One of the premiere public art programs in the region needs new work.

StreetSpark - a partnership between the Fitton Center for Creative Arts and the City of Hamilton - placed a call to artists with a request for qualifications.

Following the success of its ElectriCITY event in June, StreetSpark’s next project will be rolling artwork. Area artists have an opportunity to submit designs to decorate a Butler County Regional Transit Authority bus with a graphic wrap.

“The number of people we engage – artists, volunteers, spectators and soon, bus passengers - is amazing,” said StreetSpark Program Manager Jennifer Acus-Smith said. “We’re changing the face of the city for the better with art that people see and enjoy without having to go to a museum or a gallery.”

The submission process opened July 8 and runs through July 31. It culminates with three buses bearing StreetSpark artist designs come fall.

Complete details for interested artists follows:

- Project Overview: Butler County Regional Transit Authority seeks original designs for decorative wraps on three of its small buses. These buses will travel the Butler County area displaying the selected artwork. This commission opportunity is a two-phase design process, beginning with a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) that will expand to a later Request for Proposals (RFP) for selected finalists.

- July 29, 2022: Deadline to submit RFQ (resume, art examples, artist statement and reference letter).

- August 8, 2022: Six artists chosen to create paid design concepts for the bus wraps ($300 each).

- September 2, 2022: Three finalists will create paid final bus designs ($700 each).

- October, 2022: Bus wraps revealed
