West Chester, Ohio – Another day, another first.
Back-to-school week continued as the Fitton Center for Creative Arts hosted the first adult course - and just the second class ever - at its new Fitton at the Foundry satellite location in Liberty Center. Instructor Bell Day welcomed 10 students to a 6 p.m. Watercolor Basics course on Wednesday, September 11.
Most of the class had very little - if any - watercolor experience, though several had taken other Fitton Center art classes ranging from acrylic painting to pottery to sewing.
"Turned out (sewing) wasn't really my strong suit," the student said with a chuckle. "I'm hoping this will be more suited to me. I'm excited to learn."
Day wasted no time as she started teaching.
She employed some of the technology in the studio to share a slide presentation introducing herself and some of her artwork. She continued with different kinds of paint and painting techniques before settling into the core subject matter.
Students got right to work creating color wheels and palettes for their projects.
The inaugural run of Fitton at the Foundry classes continues later today (September 12) the first senior class – Creative Aging Mosaics – for ages 50 and up. The Foundry location opened with a Kids Drawing & Painting class September 10 .
Kids Drawing & Painting, Watercolor Basics and Creative Aging Mosaics classes return for Fitton at the Foundry's Fall II education session beginning the last week of October. Registration is open now; early-bird pricing runs through October 21.
Meantime, enjoy some photos from the first Watercolor Basics class in the gallery below.
