The steel-drivin' man

Lexington Children's Theatre came to the Fitton Center to close out the 2022-2023 Fitton Family Fridays season April 7.

The cast sang and shared the story of an American folk hero with The Legend of John Henry.

Our friends from the Lane Library set up in the Monument Gallery before the show with a number of different printed and illustrated versions of the iconic tale and gave young readers some John Henry coloring sheets to take home.

On stage, the steel-drivin' man won an epic contest at Big Bend Tunnel against a modern steam drill, but in the process of breaking the machine, something inside himself broke, too.

(While the story was sad, the Fitton Center was happy to share it with guests from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton.)

Fitton Family Fridays - and Lexington Children's Theatre - return in September to present The Smartest Girl In the World.
