Raising the Bar: Some Kind of Wonderful

Hamilton, Ohio – All aboard!

The Fitton Center loads up at the Grand Funk Railroad for a musical trip back to the 1970s Saturday night, Feb. 4.

The Newbees conduct a sold-out audience back in time - performing monster hits from artists like Steely Dan, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and many more – to a place where bell bottoms ruled the fashion scene and eight-track tapes made the music.

Resident mixologist Logan Adams will make sure the trip is easy – easy like Sunday morning – when she serves guests her signature Some Kind of Wonderful cocktail.

Originally released by the Canadian combo Soul Brothers Six in 1967, Grand Funk recorded its version of “Some Kind of Wonderful” in 1974 and took it all the way to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1975. Logan took inspiration from the title and put her spin on a traditional tequila sunrise to help people get in a groovy mood.

“The tequila sunrise actually originated in the 1970s, so it’s a great fit for this show,” Adams said. “It’s got that mellow, California, beachy feel. And when you think of the ‘70s, you think of things like the really orange and avocado kitchen the Brady Bunch had. This drink definitely hits the orange part.”

Here’s the lowdown:

Some Kind of Wonderful 3 oz orange juice 1.5 oz tequila .5 oz coconut rum .5 oz grenadine Mix OJ, tequila and coconut rum in a chilled cocktail shaker Pour over ice Drizzle with grenadine and garnish with orange slice

Keep an eye on the Fitton Center Blog for more of Logan’s cocktail creations. For additional information or to schedule an interview, please contact Mark D. Motz at 513-863-8873, ext. 130 or mark@fittoncenter.org.
