Call to Artists
Hamilton, Ohio – The Fitton Center for Creative Arts issued a call to artists for proposals for inclusion in the 2027-2028 exhibition season.
The Fitton Center accepts proposals in all visual art media for solo and group exhibitions. Full exhibition requirements and proposal forms are available online at www.fittoncenter.org/call-to-artists.
All fine-art and craft media will be considered. Proposals are selected based on originality, quality of the work and how it contributes to the diversity of style, media and content for the year. Selections are made by a committee of experienced artists, academics and others with knowledge and enthusiasm for the visual arts and the community.
Selected artists receive a modest honorarium for their exhibitions; submission deadline is Sunday, November 8, 2026.
The Fitton Center will make every effort to notify proposing artists of committee decisions by February, 2027. Artists will be notified of final decisions via email.
“Saying ‘2028’ right now might sound like a long way off,” said Director of Exhibitions Cathy Mayhugh. “But it’s really not. Our next exhibition – Milestones: Finding Our Way, which is part of the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial - opens to the public October 10 and has its gallery celebration October 17. It remains on view through early January of 2027.
“Then we have two more exhibitions this season. Mythic, opens in February and our area juried exhibition, the 53rd Hamilton Current, opens in May. Then we’re on to the 2027-2028 season. Working a year or more in advance is not unusual at all, especially when your call to artists is nationwide. We certainly love to feature local and regional artists, but we usually get submissions from all over the country.”
Interested artists must complete the online submission form that includes file uploads of a 150-word artist statement, 150-word installation specs, CV, 10 high-resolution jpg images of their artwork with corresponding image list. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for consideration.
“Our timeline gives artists a couple months from the start of the call to artists to consider their work and assemble their proposals,” Mayhugh said. “Then our selection committee needs time to evaluate the submissions and create our new season.
“Solo artists generally exhibit 10 to 20 works, depending on scale, media and available space. We also offer group shows for partnering studios, as well as for individuals willing to be selected into a curated group show.”
The Fitton Center features four professional galleries with 2,600 square feet of space, plus an adjacent Corridor Gallery to accommodate work as needed.
Located on the banks of the Great Miami River in arts-driven downtown Hamilton, Ohio, the Fitton Center welcomes thousands of guests every month for art exhibitions, classes, performances, field trips, rentals and more. Informal public gallery-opening celebrations for exhibitions routinely draw more than 250 people.
