Free film screening - Airborne

Hamilton, Ohio – The Fitton Cinema – in partnership with Ohio Goes to the Movies and America 250-Ohio - presents a FREE screening of the 1993 film Airborne at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27.

When California teen Mitchell Goosen’s parents get a grant to work in Australia, they send him to Cincinnati to stay with family for six months. He and his cousin Wiley run afoul of the high school hockey team but eventually join forces with the hockey squad to thwart rival Central High School in a wild street-skating showdown.

Partly filmed in Hamilton, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, Airborne stars Shane McDermott as Mitchell and features both Seth Green and Jack Black in early-in-their-career supporting roles. Hall of Fame basketball announcer Chick Hearn appears in the film, as does Edie McClurg, the beloved character actress perhaps best known for her role as the school secretary in the 1986 favorite Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

According to IMDB.com, there’s an Easter egg in Airborne paying homage to another popular 1986 movie. Mitchell Goosen’s character name “is a combination of names of two Top Gun characters, pilot Pete Mitchell (a.k.a. Maverick) and Radar Intercept Officer Nicholas Bradshaw (a.k.a. Goose). Therefore, MITCHELL GOOSEn.”

In addition to Airborne, there will be a live roller-skating demonstration before the screening, a cash bar, popcorn and snacks for purchase. Guests may bring their own skates and turn a few laps themselves. All are encouraged to wear their best early 1990s attire and enjoy an afternoon of energized nostalgia.

Doors and cash bar open at 1 p.m., with the skate demo scheduled for 1:30 and the screening at 2.

Ohio Goes to the Movies is a statewide celebration of films running from February to October 2026 and showcasing Ohio in film - actors, directors, writers, composers, locations and topics. A signature event of America 250-Ohio, OGTTM highlights the Buckeye State’s contributions to the American film industry. Screenings in cities and towns across Ohio include independent films, Hollywood blockbusters and cult classics.
