Meet the Intern - Madison Baker

Hamilton, Ohio – One of her early memories of the Fitton Center dates back to elementary school and the notorious Blue Baby.

“I think I probably was influenced by my parents and grandparents,” Madison Baker said of her reaction to German artist Wolfgang Auer’s sculpture officially titled Hatched Baby, which spent about a year outside the Fitton Center starting in late 2015. “I don’t think they liked it too much, but I thought it was funny.”

Now 11 years later, the recent Fairfield High School was her class salutatorian and concurrently earned an associate’s degree from Cincinnati State. She matriculates to the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning in the fall, but first joins the Fitton Center team as summer intern in the development department.

Baker – who officially started June 3 - works closely with Director of Development Ramona Toussaint and Executive Assistant Isabel Zory. She’ll be on site Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through mid-August with a primary project to help bolster the Community Rewards Program for both Fitton members and area businesses.

“I want to become familiar with how an arts center runs,” Baker said. “This is a great opportunity to see behind the scenes.”

She comes into her internship with some practical experience working with non-profit organizations. In fact, she attended the Fitton Center’s annual Season Launch event last year with the Youth Philanthropy Committee of the Hamilton Community Foundation.

Baker intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree in interior design with a minor in construction management at DAAP. She eventually plans to get a master’s degree in architecture, too. She’s been interested in architecture since childhood.

“I remember being in first grade watching HGTV on the couch with my mom,” she said. “Then it changed. My middle school was poorly designed with this awful wire fencing around it. It went from ‘Oh, this is pretty’ to ‘Oh, this isn’t planned very well at all. How can we do this better?’”

Please join us in welcoming Madison to the Fitton Center team.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
