Liberty Twp., OH - Lest you doubt the power of art, consider the following facts about the Colors of Creativity Lakota Art Showcase at Liberty Center.
WKRC-TV Local 12 broadcast live segments featuring visual art and artists during the course of three hours of programming Friday morning.
More than 20 Lakota East and West high school artists gathered well before sunrise - on a day off from classes, no less - to show and describe their work for the camera.
Another group of middle school students came out unannounced; they recorded segments on the exhibition that ran the rest of the weekend on Local 12.
Not just artists with pieces in the show, but also members of the previously unbeaten basketball team who had won a district title championship the night before were there to support an exhibiting artist and to assist their metalsmith teacher setting up the exhibition.
All told, close to 50 people - Lakota administration, faculty and students, along with Fitton Center and Liberty Center staff - hung more than 500 pieces of art in just a couple of hours' time.
About 300 people attended the opening reception for the exhibition Saturday, March 14.
Colors of Creativity is on view now through April 16 on the first floor of the Foundry Building at Liberty Center. The exhibition is free and open to the public during Liberty Center business hours.
